  2. Dolores was my first introduction to the Alamos community. I especially loved her stories about her life as a child actress in Hollywood. I will sincerely miss her.

We are here in memory of Dolores.

To all who are here, Dolores was a strong symbol of what a woman of her generation could accomplish.
Now, she is a memory of that. But as a memory, she can still be a guide to what an individual can accomplish.

I have heard so much, from so many here, about what Dolores could do if she set a course. Woe to those who disagreed. Because there was an excellent chance that the course she chose would be the course steered. And that course was most often a course she believed would benefit not just herself, but those around her from friend to community.

Growing up as her son, I benefited from her strength. She would set me on a course she believed to my benefit. But I would have to stay that course on my own. When it was time for me to go to a university, she paid my first year. Then it was up to me. If I wanted to stay that course, it was my responsibility to find a way.

Looking back, that course was a wise course that has benefited me all of my life. And the way she set about it has left me with a lifelong feeling of accomplishment of my own. Because she showed me the course but I had to sail it.

Here in Alamos, I see many threads of courses that she has sailed. It is now the choice of others to follow those threads if they choose. And I believe some of those threads are now so strong in this community that they will persist-and so will her memory.

Looking around at the memorable faces here, I understand Dolores’ joy in making this her community and home.

As in every other aspect of her life, she made her exit with determination and grace.

On behalf of her family, I thank those of you who are here for honoring her memory and ask that you join us at her house after the service.
